Falcons Football Looking to Make Noise in 2011

Behind new head coach, Monmouth Regional football is eager to step up.

When first-year head football coach wakes up on Sunday mornings this fall, he will not be too interested about what scores are in the paper.

Instead, he will focus on how his team played their game, and how they represented their school.

“We’re not going to look at wins and losses,” Morrell said, “We’re going to look at commitment, whether or not kids showed up to practice on time, and how we played the game.”

In search of their first winning season since 2006, Morrell notes that the fact that the Falcons don’t have an established program could work in their favor.

“We don’t have an established program,” he said, “So we can’t be looking at the schedule. We have no reason to be worrying about our opponents. We need to worry about Monmouth Regional, first and foremost.”

As far as who the Falcons will be taking on this year, Morrell said it doesn’t really mean much to them.

“We could be playing the Philadelphia Eagles or a team, we still need to take care of ourselves and our game plan,” he said.

After playing four of their first five games on the road, Monmouth Regional will enjoy playing their final four games of the season at home as they try to make a push to the playoffs.

Additionally, Morrell said that the team needs to trust the system in which they are playing in if they want to be successful in 2011.

“We need to stay healthy, and buy into a system of belief,” he said, “I don’t believe that we are super talented, but if we are a committed team and we believe in what we are doing, we have a chance to be a good football team.”

Morrell believes that if the team follows his lead, they have an opportunity to build up their program.

“Consistency is key,” he said, “If we are committed and work at it every day, we have a chance to create a good football program around here.”
