CPC’s 2012 PETER BRY CLINICAL TRAINING WILL Feature John R. Weisz, PH.D., on March 9, 2012

 

EATONTOWN, NJ – One of the nation’s most prominent clinicians and researchers in the area of child and adolescent treatment, John R. Weisz, Ph.D., is the featured speaker at CPC’s Peter M. Bry Clinical Training on March 9, 2012 at the PNC Arts Center. Dr. Weisz will present “Mod Squad for Child Psychotherapy: Integrating Evidence-Based Treatments into a Modular Approach to Childhood Anxiety, Depression, Traumatic Stress, and Conduct Problems” to mental health professionals and educators throughout New Jersey. Social work attendees who complete the entire training will receive 6 clinical CEUs approved by NASW-NJ.

This full-day workshop will provide front line clinicians and mental health professionals with the ultimate practitioner’s toolbox of adaptable resources based on the modular MATCH program. This treatment protocol integrates multiple evidence-based clinical practices into a systematic approach for a range of childhood disorders. Dr. Weisz, a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University and Harvard Medical School will focus on “how to” issues in using MATCH-ADTC (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma or Conduct Problems) to improve everyday clinical practice.

  • Understand MATCH’s underlying theoretical principles and practice methods;
  • Use MATCH’s client-guided approaches to assessment and identification of treatment priorities;
  • Use MATCH’s decision flow charts to streamline treatment to fit the individual child’s needs and address complicated issues of comorbidity involving the frequent coexistence of symptoms of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and/or conduct problems;
  • Employ and appropriately time a range of cognitive and behavioral interventions in a sequential and modular approach to symptoms of childhood anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and conduct problems;
  • Achieve a “fit” between treatments and specific client needs and expectations;
  • Respond to shifting priorities during treatment.
