Eatontown to Lose Seat on High School Board of Ed

A population shift in the most recent census is a loss for Eatontown but a gain for Tinton Falls.

After 50 years of splitting seats of the board of education evenly between Tinton Falls and Eatontown -- with one additional member representing Shrewsbury Township -- the board make up at will change next year to reflect recent shifts in population.

Tinton Falls will gain one seat in next April's and Eatontown will lose a seat to reflect according to the high school's business administrator, Maria Anne Parry. Eatontown will go down to three spots and Tinton Falls will increase to five members on the board of education with Shrewsbury Township retaining its one seat.

Eatontown's population shifted from 13,700 in 2000 to 12,495 in 2010, according to data given by Parry at Tuesday's board of education meeting. Conversely, Tinton Falls' population increased from 14,908 in 2000 to 17,892 in 2010.
