Brodie to 'Reevaluate' Rutgers As College Destination

Long Branch offensive lineman now undecided after Schiano's decision to leave school for NFL

 

Former head coach Greg Schiano's decision to leave Rutgers for the NFL has caused Long Branch offensive lineman Ryan Brodie to consider changing his decision on where he will be playing football for the next four years.

Long Branch football football coach Dan George said Brodie will now "reevaluate" his decision to verbally commit to play football at Rutgers after Schiano was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, according to the district's Facebook page.

Verbal commitments are non-binding and high school players, and they must only join a school after signing a letter of intent, which is binding for one academic year.

According to a statement from the district, "George has stated that Brodie has attempted to reach out to Schiano but has not been able to reach him."

Schiano is known as a strong recruiter and the university has garnered more highly touted high school players since he became the team's head football coach in 2001.

Brodie was choosing between the University of Connecticut and Rutgers, and opted to verbally commit to the Scarlet Knights

However, Brodie also was considering other high-profile schools such as Miami, West Virginia and Illinois, according to an article on ESPN.com.
