As evidenced in the attached link, http://project.wnyc.org/flooding-sandy-new/#12.00/39.8120/-74.0610, Beach replenishment will not protect the majority of areas damaged as a result of massive storms. Most damage is caused by back bay/river flooding and cannot be mitigated by beach replenishment.
Our Federal, State and local leaders need to develop a long-term plan to address this situation and discontinue wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a solution that cannot work. Overdevelopment of flood prone areas needs to be addressed. Killing marine habitat and life while negatively impacting recreational activities as a result of a misguided beach replenishment project is not a long-term strategy.
Wake up folks and get your heads out of the sand.
