West Long Branch Council To Hold Special Meeting To Discuss Shared Police Services With Oceanport

Executive session meeting will be held with Oceanport Council

The West Long Branch and Oceanport councils will hold a joint meeting to discuss the possibility of sharing police services.

The meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at West Long Branch Borough Hall, and will be held in executive session. No action is expected to taken at the meeting.

The West Long Branch Council held a similar meeting last month, but the Oceanport Council was not part of the meeting.

The council and police department have not publicly discussed any details of the proposal.

In May, the departments agreed to share police dispatch services, creating a joint savings of $1.3 million over the initial 5-year term, according to Oceanport Mayor Michael Mahon.

West Long Branch Police Capt. Lawrence Mihlon has said dispatch services for both boroughs will is handled by the West Long Branch Police Department on Broadway.
