West Long Branch Council Discussing Possibility of Shared Police Services with Oceanport

Matter will be discussed during special executive session meeting Tuesday morning

The possibility of additional shared services between the West Long Branch and Oceanport police departments is being discussed by the borough council.

The West Long Branch Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning where the matter will be discussed during executive session. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Borough Clerk Lori Cole explained that there will be no action taken during the meeting and that the purpose of the meeting is strictly to discuss a "shared services proposal for the West Long Branch and Oceanport Police Departments."

The council and police department have not publicly discussed any details of the proposal.

In May, the departments agreed to share police dispatch services, creating a joint savings of $1.3 million over the initial 5-year term, according to Oceanport Mayor Michael Mahon.
