Traffic Signal Cameras on the Docket for Wednesday's Eatontown Borough Council Meeting

An ordinance to authorize the borough to hire a company to install and monitor a traffic control signal monitoring system, introduced in May, could be approved at Wednesday's meeting.

Eatontown will be one step closer to the installation of cameras on traffic lights at key intersections in the borough if the borough council adopts an ordinance on the agenda for the June 22 regular meeting at 7:30.

The ordinance would allow the borough to enter into a contract with a company to install and monitor still and video cameras at four intersections, as outlined at the May 4 council meeting:

  • Route 35 and Tinton Avenue
  • Route 35 and Wyckoff Road
  • Route 36 and Wyckoff Road
  • Route 36 and Grant Avenue

Officials say the cameras would allow the Eatontown Police to nab speedy drivers as well as to be able to record all angles of an accident.

Violations would result in an $85 fine and the owner of the vehicle would be responsible for the payment of the summons.

Also on the meeting agenda is an ordinance to create the borough's Green Team, or Advisory Committee on Renewable Energy, and the appointment of a new municipal court judge.
