Tinton Falls Issues State of Emergency

The borough asks that residents prepare for Hurrican Irene and stay in their homes during the storm.

A message from the Borough of Tinton Falls:

Tinton Falls to issue state of emergency today Friday, August 26th.

Following Gov. Chris Christie’s declaration of a state of emergency in advance of Hurricane Irene, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders issued its own state of emergency for Monmouth County yesterday. Tinton Falls will issue a municipal declaration of a municipal state of emergency today. A state of emergency will allow the Office of Emergency Management to mobilize all state, county and local resources and direct them where they are needed to protect life and property. These actions include ordering mandatory evacuations and controlling traffic on all roadways, if needed.

Right now, New Jersey residents living in coastal and low-lying areas are urged to evacuate voluntarily, especially those who have experienced flooding before. At this time the Borough of Tinton Falls is not expected to be asked to evacuate. Tinton Falls Residents are being asked to prepare to stay at home, leading up to and during this hurricane event. If you intend to relocate to another location or you intend on housing additional family members or friends; please complete your arrangements before Saturday. There is a good chance that our area will experience loss of power. Prepare accordingly.

The county has established shelters. The shelters will open at 5 p.m. Friday night. :
Holmdel High School, 36 Crawford’s Corner Rd., Holmdel Wall High School, 1630 18th Avenue, Wall.
Colts Neck High School 59 Five Points Rd (and 537), Colts Neck, NJ

Hurricane Irene is expected to arrive Saturday night and continue with high winds and rain throughout the day on Sunday. It is important to prepare for the storm before it hits. Assemble a kit of emergency supplies, creating an emergency plan. TFOEM will provide updates and Code Red messages as needed. Tune into local radio and television for current information.
