Slideshow: Wolcott Park Playground Dedication Ceremony

Eatontown welcomes the new play area into the borough's fold.

Despite the heat, Eatontown's recreation director, Janice Grasso, exuded the same amount of energy as her campers as she bounded back and forth across the playground at on Tuesday organizing the morning's dedication ceremony.

Borough officials were joined by the project's engineers, recreation campers and members of the community to celebrate the official welcome of the play area to Eatontown.

Grasso orchestrated the large group in front of the play area and the kids, all wearing neon green "Eatontown Recreation" t-shirts, held up a long, brown paper banner they crafted with a message for borough officials: "Thank you for our playground."

Part of a that were financed through a county municipal open space grant of $175,000 that was matched by the borough, the "boundless playground" is handicapped accessible and features a "poured in place rubber surface," according to James R. Herrman of the engineering firm Birdsall Services Group.

The centerpiece of the playground is a giant, hollowed-out tree that's good for running through and hiding out. The project began in April and was finished up by the end of June, according to Borough Administrator George Jackson.

After she got everyone settled, Grasso ran into the middle of the group and at the count of three, had the crowd throw up its hands and shout "Eatontown!"
