Second Annual Snow Summit in Tinton Falls: No Sled Required

There may be no snow in the forecast, but the borough plans to be ready when the white stuff comes.

When the blizzard hit in 2010, the borough learned that it did not have the equipment or technology in place to deal with a storm of that magnitude.

Since then, officials has taken steps to improve snow removal techniques and communication methods and will hold a Snow Summit on Friday to discuss those advances and look for ways to continue to improve.

“After last winter’s record snow fall, we listened to our residents and stepped up to the challenge to improve our snow removal operations,” said Mayor Michael Skudera. “Additionally, we expanded our shared service agreements and work cooperatively with Red Bank, Ocean Township and .”

The second-annual gathering, which will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the , will provide a forum for other municipalities to share their insights and experiences and discuss ways to share services.

Tinton Falls replaced its pen and paper system that was around for decades with a new software tracking system. Additionally, Tinton Falls is among the first in New Jersey to have a GPS based Internet system that allows the borough to track salting and plowing operations in real-time, according to a release from the borough.
