The Eatontown Council welcomed its newest members, Republicans Kevin Gonzalez and Richard "Duke" Robinson during its Jan. 1 reorganization meeting.

Gonzalez and Robinson were surrounded by their familes as they were sworn in by Eatontown Clerk Karen Siano, and got to take their first action as councilmembers by voting on several municipal appointments.

One of those appointments was a new borough attorney, Andrew Bayer. The council voted 4-2 to hire Bayer to replace Gene Anthony.

Councilman Dennis Connelly was also unanimously appointed as the the Eatontown Council President.

The council also voted, 4-2, to approve Richard Thompson as the new muncipal judge of Eatontown, replacing George Cieri, who did not seek reappointment.

Councilman Anthony Talerico and Councilwoman Janice Kroposky voted against the appointment.

Talerico said he was unhappy with the process the council used to appoint Thompson, but did not have a problem with Thompson himself.
