Reconfiguration Of Parker Road-Wall Street Intersection Coming

By Christopher Sheldon

A design for the reconfiguration of the Wall Street-Parker Road intersection in Eatontown was unveiled to the borough council and public on Wednesday night.

Borough Engineer David Marks said the current configuration of the intersection is not working as it should and that by making a 4-way stop and improving sight lines, that the intersection should be more functional.

The portion of Wall Street between the LGR Complex and the large shopping center that contains Best Buy was vacated by the borough. Half the street belongs to the LGR Complex and the other half belongs to the Best Buy shopping center.

The redesigned intersection eliminates that portion of Wall Street and includes the rest of Wall Street, Parker Road, the new extension of Parker Road that takes drivers to Route 35 and a two-way access road to the Best Buy shopping center.

The borough received a $185,000 New Jersey Department of Transportation grant to help pay for the cost of the project, which should total between $300,000-$350,000, according to Marks. A contract must be in place by Octobet, 2014 for the borough to use the DOT funds.

The council is expected to request any changes to the concept design so a final plan can be drawn up and approved in the next few months.
