The official word is out on the schedule of the pending Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closure.
After review of the potential ill effects of Hurricane Sandy-recovering Sea Bright and myriad public objections raised, Monmouth County officials have revised the closure schedule for the upgrade the safety systems on the bridge, closing it on weekdays starting Jan. 28, but reopening it to accommodate weekend traffic, a county release said.
“At the request of local businesses and the governing body, the county will has modified the closure schedule,” said freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “It is important that businesses that are open get the support that they need; however, it is important that we complete these safety upgrades in advance of warmer weather when use of the bridge increases.”
The bridge that connects Rumson and Sea Bright will be closed to vehicles and pedestrian traffic from 9 a.m. on Mondays through 3:30 p.m. Fridays, from Jan. 28 until Feb. 15, weather permitting.
The Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge will remain open to marine traffic during the upgrades.
