Municipal Transportation Issues To Be Discussed At Monmouth University

Municipal transportation issues will be the hot topic during Tuesday night's Transportation Summit at Monmouth University.

The Monmouth County Transportation Council, an advisory group to the Monmouth County Planning Board, is hosting the summit on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Young Auditorium in Bey Hall.

“This annual transportation summit helps Monmouth County residents, elected officials, planners and engineers find solutions to the transportation issues faced by our communities,” Freeholder Director John P. Curley said in a release. “This year’s program will review common municipal transportation challenges and present some real success stories. The speakers will discuss both the strategies and the processes necessary to make changes.”

Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, who is also a member of the Monmouth County Planning Board, said the summit will help clarify the county's "burgeoning transportation network" for residents.

“Monmouth County’s municipalities are working together to solve their shared transportation problems,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Thomas A. Arnone, an alternate on the Planning Board. “Sharing knowledge as well as resources will help our towns as well as the county answer some of our most pressing transportation needs.”

Long Branch has already taken steps to try to solve some of its transportation issues by throughout the city for this summer.

Several guest speakers will be on hand including Curley; David Behrend, Communications and Government Affairs Director for the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority; Nora Shepard, Regional Safe Routes to School Coordinator at Meadowlink Transportation Management Authority; Montclair Mayor Jerry Fried, and Daria Jakimowska, Monmouth County Division of Engineering.
