Long Branch Will Try Parking Meters This Summer

Council approves ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting

The city will install parking meters this summer near the Great Lawn for a 90-day free trial this summer.

The Long Branch Council unanimously adopted an ordinance on Tuesday night that will allow the meters to be installed for the 90-day period. After the 90-day period, the city will decide on whether or not it will keep the parking meters.

The meters will be installed in the lot of the Great Lawn and will feature 27 numbered spaces on the north side and 32 numbered spaces on the south side.

Each space will be striped and numbered and people who wish to park in these spaces will then pay at a meter with either coins, dollars or a credit card. Motorists can even use their smart phone in order to add time.

Similar parking meters are currently being used in Asbury Park near the boardwalk.
