Long Branch Residents Living North of Atlantic Avenue Must Evacuate

City calls for mandatory evacuation from Atlantic Avenue to Monmouth Beach border

Long Branch residents who live north of Atlantic Avenue are now being asked to evacuate the city as Hurricane Irene is ready to impact the area.

The city made the announcement this afternoon and is now asking for a mandatory evacuation for residents who live from Atlantic Avenue to the Monmouth Beach border. 

Residents living in this area must leave their homes by noon on Saturday.

It is considered to be too dangerous to stay in coastal/low lying areas at this time. Secure and lock up everything.

Please attempt to find a safe location with family/friends for the duration of the storm. If you cannot find a safe location to stay, please go on of the following Monmouth County Shelters:

If you have absolutely no way to get there, call City of Long Branch Office of Emergency Management at (732) 571-6575. 

Long Branch Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Stanley Dzuiba said the storm will bring 50-70-mile-per-hour winds with 90-mile-per-hour gusts. Duzuiba said there will also be a 3-6 foot tidal surge and 6-12 inches of rain.

Emergency information will also be broadcasted on channel 20 (Comcast Only) and 1620 AM.

The city is also urging residents to only call police if it is "a true emergency."
