Joe's Crab Shack Approved for Monmouth Mall

The Eatontown Planning Board approved the application for the 300-seat seafood chain at its May 9 meeting.

The chairman of the Eatontown Planning Board confirmed that Joe's Crab Shack is coming to the Monmouth Mall.

Carl Sohl, chairman of the planning board, said on Wednesday that the chain restaurant will be a free-standing structure along Route 35, across from the . The board approved the application at its May 9 meeting.

According to the Asbury Park Press, approval for the 8,300-square-foot seafood restaurant is contingent upon the borough agreeing upon a suitable barrier for the outdoor play area proposed by the eatery as well as approval for planned outdoor lighting by the borough's lighting expert.

board members had expressed concern with the height of the barrier surrounding the Pirate Playground as well as its proximity to the highway.

The APP reported that the board agreed to let engineers come up with a satisfactory barrier for the play area.

Variances for signage for the 300-seat restaurant were also approved, according to the article.

The Eatontown location will be the third Joe's Crab Shack in New Jersey, with restaurants in Lawrenceville and South Plainfield.
