GOP Candidates Stay on Council in Eatontown

Republican incumbent candidates Mark Regan and Dennis Connelly bested Democratic challengers Al Baginsky and Janice Kroposky in a heated race for borough council.

Although he said he was nervous just moments before unofficial results came barreling into on Tuesday night, newly reelcted was all smiles with the outcome.

"We do the right thing all the time," he told the group of supporters packed into the Eatontown pizza parlor. "Even if it doesn't mean votes."

"I think we're helping people," said Regan before the results came in, "I just hope they agree."

Over at the , the two Democratic candidates were praised by Mayor Gerald Tarantolo following their loss for their "clean and aggressive campaign."

"It's a loss for Eatontown," said the mayor. "We had all the ingredients of a classic campaign."

Democratic candidate said, "I am surprised. I thought we were going to win, I really did."

Her running mate, concurred: "I thought we had the right message."

Both sides accused the other of disseminating inaccurate information during the final push of the campaign .

"It was politics," said Tarantolo, "of some influencing the thoughts of those who have to make a decision."

The council remains split between three Democratic and three Republican council members with the Democratic mayor acting as the tie breaker.

"We still have control of council," said Tarantolo to the crowd of supporters. "And I intend to break a lot of ties."
