UPDATE: Eatontown Postal Facility Closure Not Definitive

The United States Post Office continues to study whether to close the facility and will hold a public meeting next week at Monmouth Regional

A regional spokesperson for the United States Postal Service told Patch that the agency is still studying whether to close the Eatontown facility and will hold a public meeting on Dec. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Monmouth Regional High School.

According to Ray Daiutolo, Sr., USPS representatives will present findings from an ongoing study of whether to close the Industrial Way facility and give the public the opportunity to answer questions at next week's meeting.

One possibility, said Daiutolo, would be consolidating operations at the Eatontown plant with the Trenton facility.

According to the Associated Press, the USPS will close 252 mail-processing centers nationwide and slow delivery service to avoid bankruptcy next year. The measures are part of $3 billion in reductions that will eliminate next-day mail as well as 28,000 jobs nationwide.

The New Jersey USPS facilities the Associated Press reported closing included Pleasantville, Kearny, Edison, Teterboro and Bellmawr.
