Eatontown Mayor Picked as Officer for State Association

Mayor Gerald Tarantolo was elected Thursday to serve as third vice president for the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

Aside from his duties as mayor of Eatontown and member of the Fort Monmouth Econcomic Revitalization Committee, Gerald Tarantolo will add his newly-elected role of officer of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJLM) to his municipal resume.

was picked on Nov. 17 to serve as third vice president of the NJLM and will help lead the association's 566 municipal governments, according to a release. He will represent the interests and needs of New Jersey’s local elected officials to county, state and federal governments.

According to the association's Web site: The New Jersey State League of Municipalities is a voluntary association created to help communities do a better job of self-government through pooling information resources and brain power.

Tarantolo is serving his fourth term as mayor of Eatontown after spending 14 years as a councilman in the borough and 23 years on its planning board. With the announced closing of the Fort Monmouth in 2005, he served as a member of two authorities that created and implemented the planned redevelopment of the military base. Those authorities were the Fort Monmouth Economic Redevelopment Planning Authority, which then became FMERA. Both authorities were created by the State Legislature.

In addition to his municipal involvement, Tarantolo serves on the NJLM executive board and chairman of the NJLM Tax Reform Committee and the chairman of the Two River Council of Mayors in Monmouth County.

The Eatontown mayor retired after working 37 years in the telecommunications industry, from Telcordia Technologies and was also on the technical staff of two other technology-associated companies namely, Bell Laboratories and Bellcore. He received his BSEE from Monmouth University. He is an Air Force veteran. Tarantolo is married and he and his wife Patricia have two grown children and three grandchildren.
