Building at 162 Broadway will be demolished by city

A Broadway building will be demolished by the city after the Long Branch Council awarded a contract for the work at a recent meeting.

Long Branch Director of the Office of Community & Economic Development Jacob Jones said building was known as the Lighthouse Mission Building and was going to be used a church at one point.

Jones said the Rev. Kevin Brown, a former pastor in the city, never got approval to change the building into a church.

He said the building was in bad shape was "becoming a threat to safety." He said the building had several problems including holes in its roof.

The Long Branch Council approved a resolution that awarded a bid for Mazza and Sons Demolition to demolish the building for $37,000.

Mazza and Sons Demolition was the lowest responsible bidder for the project.

The resolution states that funds are available for the project in the Community Development Block Grant.
