The council also bonded $2 million for repairs to Manahassett Creek Park.

The Long Branch Council has bonded $1 million for preliminary boardwalk design work.

This is the first step in getting the city's boardwalk and bluff area rebuilt after they were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

Long Branch Chief Financial Officer Ron Mehlhorn said on Tuesday that the funds will likely be used for engineering and planning services.

The city has also bonded $2 million to repair the Sandy-damaged Manahassett Creek Park.

The repairs will include replacing the artificial turf that was destroyed by flood waters last October.

Mehlhorn said he expects FEMA to reimburse the city for most of the projects.

"We expect them to reimburse the total $1 million (for the boardwalk) ad $1.7 to $1.8 million for the park," Mehlhorn said.

Work on the Long Branch's boardwalk is expected to begin in the spring, once FEMA gives the city word on how much funding it will receive for the project.
