Playground located at Pine Tree Manufactured Home Park

The Affordable Housing Alliance has unveiled its newest addition to the Pine Tree Manufactured Home Park in Eatontown.

A new park, the Borden Foundation Playground, was just constructed in the affordable housing complex and was opened to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials including Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo.

"The renaissance for Pine Tree continues," Mayor Tarantolo said. "The improvements here are starting to take effect."

The playground includes swings, a slide and oversized animal mounts children can ride.

The playground is just one of many improvements the Affordable Housing Alliance has made since it acquired Pine Tree in 2007.

Recent improvements include a new water distribution system, including three new fire hydrants, and new gas mains installed to replace existing propane, oil and kerosene heating systems. Mobile homes built before 1976 are being replaced with new Energy Star modern HUD-approved units. Fourteen old units have been removed and six have been replaced with more coming soon.

The playground is located next to a community center built in 2008, which provides a place for residents to gather to do laundry and hold meetings, celebrations, and family movie nights.

"It's a very family-oriented community," Affordable Housing Alliance Donna Blaze said. "Living here gives people a sense of ownership and it's as cost effective as renting."

Blaze said the improvements to the community, which provides affordable housing to approximately 130 low-income families, are important for residents.

"We want to make officials aware that what they are doing has paid off," Blaze said.
