Work Under Way on Sept. 11 Memorial at TF Fire Co. No. 1; Dedication Ceremony Set

The firehouse announced that it would hold a dedication ceremony for the finished memorial, in conjunction with its annual service, at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 and invited the public to attend.

The monument replaces a s, including lit windows and towering antenna, that was constructed by member Jared Stevens, soon after the attacks. The memorial, installed on Dec. 14, 2001, was a magnet for many in the area but its structure slowly succombed to the wear and tear of the elements.

But over the next few weeks, two new towers, fortified with steele beams from the WTC donated to the firehouse, will rise in remembrance of those who were lost that day.

“That disaster really hit home,” said Tinton Falls Borough Administrator Gerald Turning in May about the signifigance of the memorial. “It should be remembered, and people haven’t forgotten.”
