A woman spotted wielding a knife near the Long Branch Middle School was quickly arrested by Long Branch Police on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Long Branch Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck said police received a call from the school at 2:05 p.m. and units in the area immediately responded.
"The school staff members kept the woman in sight the entire time, and quickly called the police," Roebuck said.
Long Branch Officer Lance Fanning was directed to the woman by school staff and found that she had a small folding knife hidden in her boot,
The woman, later identified as Robin Ann Brooks, 45, of Long Branch, was questioned, and then arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal trespass, according to Roebuck.
Brooks was released on a summons and checked into crisis at Monmouth Medical Center.
"At no time were any students in danger during this event, and because of the alert and quick response by both the school employees and the Police Department, this crisis was handled quickly and professionally," Roebuck said. "The Long Branch Board of Education and the City of Long Branch Department of Public Safety will continue to work and train together to ensure the safety of the students in our district."
