Vehicle Thefts Are Up This Summer, West Long Branch Police Say

Police say keys were left in vehicles in many cases.

By Christopher Sheldon

The West Long Branch Police say that thefts of high-end vehicles have been on the rise in the borough this month.

"Believe it or not, many times these thefts occur because the drivers or owners have left the keys in the vehicle," the West Long Branch Facebook page states. "Please remember that gone are the days when you can or should leave your keys and valuables in your cars."

Police say that two high-end vehicles were recently stolen in the borough and that there have been similar reports throughout the county.

The West Long Branch Police are telling residents that thefts such as these can be avoided by not keeping keys or fobs (electronic keys) in cars when they are unattended and by locking doors.

This sounds simple, but police emphasize this every summer and it continues to happen, so they are constantly taking to Facebook or the Code Red Emergency Alert System to remind residents to do so.
