"Always take your laptop, cell phone and handbag with you when you leave your car parked and unattended, even in your driveway or the parking lot outside your residence," the West Long Branch Police stated on the department's Facebook page. "Leaving a handbag or wallet in your car that contains your personal ID and credit cards only makes identity theft easier for the thief."

The police also encourage residents to use their camera or phone to take digital photos of suspicious people and vehicles and send them to the department. They also ask residents to not post any photos on the Facebook page.
