West Long Branch Police Investigate Possible Burglary Attempt

Burglary occurred in the area south of Wall Street

 

The West Long Branch Police are investigating a possible attempted burglary that occurred in the borough this afternoon.

The possible burglary was reported around noon on Thursday in the area south of Wall Street.

Police called in a K-9 unit and a helicopter to assist with the search and an arrest was made.

However, the suspect taken into custody was apparently not involved in the burglary attempt, according to the police's Facebook page.

"The suspect was seen in the area (from the helicopter) and was checked by ground units," the police state on Facebook. "It turned out there was a warrant for his arrest. He was also found to be in possession of controlled dangerous substance."

The West Long Branch Police have been investigating a large number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the last two months and have urged residents to be extra cautious and to lock their car and house doors during the day and night.
