West Long Branch Fire Company Holding Fundraiser

Race cars and movies to be shown at fire company fundraiser.

Racing will be the theme at West Long Branch Borough Chemical & Truck Company No. 1's fundraiser on Feb. 26.

The fundraiser will feature racing movies and vintage modifieds of racing cars at the fire house at 379 Monmouth Road at 4:30 p.m. Admission for the event will be $10 and will include food and drinks.

The fundraiser will help pay for renovations and improvements to the firehouse to improve services its volunteers give to the community. The building belongs to the department and they are responsible for its upkeep, including maintenance and improvements.

“We will are looking for the support of our residents and businesses so we can continue to give the best services we can for our town,” said West Long Branch Fire Chief Rich Cooper.

The event features stock car racing films provided by from Fillimon Brothers Racing Video beginning at 6 p.m. Anyone wanting to get there early can gaze at the vintage stock car modifieds of Jim Hendrickson's x3, Gil Hearne's No. 12 Pinto, Pete Frazee's No. 41 Coupe and Al Michalchuk's 292.

The movies to be shown are from tracks such as Wall Stadium, New Egypt (old and new), East Windsor, Flemington (Dirt and asphalt), Islip/Riverhead, Trenton, Pocono Race of Champions, Old Bridge and others. Narrators will be on hand to add their first-hand comments and answer questions.

The fire department has made some special arrangements for parking. Preferred parking for handicapped and elderly will be at the firehouse.

The main parking area is at Monmouth University Parking Lot No. 18 off Larchwood Ave.  The fire department will shuttle everyone to the firehouse in vans.

Fire Chief Cooper said he is hoping for a good turnout for this weekend's fundraiser.

“We hope many will come to give our volunteer company a helping hand so we can give do our very best when help is needed," Fire Chief Cooper said. "That’s our job as volunteers and we take it seriously."
