A Holmdel man swerved into oncoming traffic, sending himself and three others to the hospital, according to police.

Anthony Carbone, 22, of Bethany Road in Holmdel was driving his Ford southbound on Route 34 when he allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a Volkswagen being driven by Hidajet Hamzic, 55, of Long Branch and sending Hamzic's car into the woods.

Carbone then allegedly continued the wrong way on the northbound side of Route 34, causing a head-on collision with a Kia driven by Vicky Vandunk, 48, of Farmingdale.

After being extricated from her vehicle by Holmdel Fire Companies #1 and #2, Vandunk was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical by the N.J. State Police helicopter for internal and leg injuries, according to police.

Hamzic and his passenger Sabaheta Hamzic, 54, of Long Branch were transported to Bayshore Community Hospital by the Holmdel First Aid Squad for back and neck injuries.

Carbone suffered a leg injury and was transported to Riverview Medical Center by
the Colts Neck First Aid squad.

Responding officers were Ptl. Cherney, Ptl. Bernard, Sgt. Imperato, Ptl. Michalsi, and Ptl. Menosky. The case is still under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact the Holmdel Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 732-946-4400.
