Toms River Couple Sentenced in Eatontown Mail Scheme

Joseph Bisogno, 49, and Kathleen Bisogno, 52 will each spend a year in jail

A Toms River couple who owned an Eatontown-based bulk mailing house were sentenced by a federal judge Thursday to one year and one day each in prison after they pleaded guilty earlier this year to wire fraud and conspiracy charges.

Joseph Bisogno, 49, and Kathleen Bisogno, 52, ex-spouses, admitted in May to defrauding clients of their firm, KA Mailers LLC, by dumping large amounts of mail rather than posting it, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said at the time.

Both faced up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan imposed his sentence on each Thursday afternoon in federal court in Trenton.

KA Mailers handled large mailings for clients who contracted with them to complete folding, envelope stuffing, labeling and delivery to the post office, Fishman said. The firm charged a fee based on the the amount of postage needed for the job as well as for services rendered in preparing mail for delivery.

However, the Bisognos would not always hold up their end of the arrangement. The pair admitted discarding some mail and creating bogus postal forms to give clients the impression their orders were completed.

The fraud, lasting from September 2005 to March 2011, resulted in losses of $500,000 for 55 victims, Fishman said.

Not bad one year for 250,000 dollars.

Real difficult work too! It's really a shame that many folks simply cannot be trusted. I was taught that your word (read as reputation) was the most important thing a person could have. Without that you are nothing!
