Man Charged With Violent Armed Robbery In Neptune's Sunshine Village

A Tinton Falls man is being held on $1 million bail on charges he shot at and stabbed a man during the course of an armed robbery near a pedestrian walkway in Sunshine Village on Saturday, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.

Following a joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Neptune Township Police Department, Cameron D. Keyes, 20, of Westchester Drive in Tinton Falls, is charged with one count of first degree attempted murder, first degree attempted robbery, first degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Keyes is being held on $1 million bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold with no 10 percent option, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Angela White Dalton, J.S.C., who also required a bail source hearing and no victim contact as a condition of bail.

The alleged incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, near the Route 18 pedestrian walkway in Sunshine Village in Neptune Township. The victim, a 23-year-old Neptune Township man, was taken to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

If convicted of attempted murder, Keyes could face a potential sentence of up to 20 years in a New Jersey state prison, subject to the provisions of the "No Early Release Act" (NERA) requiring him to serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release on parole. He would also be under parole supervision for five years following his release from state prison.

If convicted of the second degree charges, he faces a sentence of up to ten years in prison. 

If convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Keyes faces three to five years in state prison with a period of up to three years that must be served prior to becoming eligible for parole. 

If convicted of the third degree charges, he faces a sentence of three to five years in prison.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
