UPDATE: Power Restored To Most After Thursday Night Thunderstorms

Tinton Falls, Howell, Freehold Township were hit hardest.

 

Heavy winds downed wires across Monmouth County during Thursday’s severe thunderstorm, but Jersey Central Power & Light has restored power to most of its customers. Over 9,000 residents had lost power as of 8:50 p.m., according Jersey Central Power & Light’s outage map.

Over 1,600 Tinton Falls customers are without power and 269 are affected in Eatontown. As of 9:30 a.m. only 8 customers did not have power in Tinton Falls and less than were without power in Eatontown. There was a report of multiple trees and poles down with live wires near Neville Street in Tinton Falls on Thursday night that may have been the cause of the otuages.

As with the last summer storm to strike the area, Western Monmouth County was hardest hit. Over 2,300 Howell residents were in the dark Thursday night. Some 1,300 outages were reported in Freehold Township and 951 in Marlboro. JCP&L reported 482 customers without service in Millstone. By Friday morning, power had been restored to all but 159 Millstone residents, 25 in Freehold, 20 in Marlboro and less than five in Howell.

Long Branch and West Long Branch also have minimal outages Friday morning, according to JCP&L.
