State Police Continue Training At Fort Monmouth Wednesday Night

Training may continue past midnight

The New Jersey State Police will continue performing training exercises Wednesday night near the Fort Monmouth area.

Tinton Falls and Eatontown residents can expect to hear low-flying helicopters and simulated explosives again until as late as midnight or possibly later

"(Eatontown) Borough officials have no control over this operation or the noise that it may produce," according to a messgae on the borough web site. "Please do not call the police department or other borough offices to report it."

Why do *state police* exercises involve *explosives*? C'mon, Patch, do some serious investigating here. This just isn't making any sense. What are they training *for*? Why do they have to do it in populated areas? And why aren't we being given explanations?

Great. My kids and dog will be crying because they don't understand what is going on.
Tom June 7, 2012 at 01:58 am
I say let them practice all they want. Giving up a little sleep once in a while is a small price to pay for our freedom.
iwanttosleep June 7, 2012 at 02:18 am
So police can only practice from 5pm till 2am? Why cant they do this during the day when people are awake. Give away our freedoms and get ready for the police state.!
iwanttosleep June 7, 2012 at 02:21 am
Tom this isn't freedom or soldiers it is state police. Sheeple who think that police are the same as military are willing to give up their freedoms so easy. Legally speaking they are robbing us of quiet enjoyment.
iwanttosleep June 7, 2012 at 02:36 am
If you are complaining take action email the governor. Talk is just that unless you take action.
Marc June 7, 2012 at 02:51 am
It's like Eaton"Baghdad"town!! I cant give enough credit to our soldiers going through this every night!!

On the topic.... I don't know what the state police need to be blowing up, and I am not hearing simulations, I am hearing explosions.
State police training at a closed military base? Ok. Whatev. Email the governor? LOL! I caught a glimpse of the men in the choppers before the sun went down picking up a pizza in Shrewsbury as they flew over head. The men were wearing army fatigues. As far as I can think of, anytime a matter escalated to the need for explosives and helicopters, that matter was turned over to the National Guard or perhaps the Army. Not sure where the nearest Army base is, but maybe they are practicing deployment into an area close to Earle should they need to hit ground in the area or something. Either way.... I ain't buying state police training.
IronBound June 7, 2012 at 03:42 am
They aren't doing this during the day because the "practice excercises" call for night time simulations.
More likely they want it done during cover of night because its more difficult to catch on camera. That white helicopter, with the yellow and blue NJ State trooper logo painted on it, the one in yesterdays post on this site....? STILL haven't seen that helicopter yet.

I think everyone should just take a deep breath and let our military/state police do whatever it is they have to do, yes the noise is disrupting our lives on a TEMPORARY basis i am sure they are not doing this because they have nothing else better to do..Every time u hear the helicopter or simulated bombs you should be proud and happy that this is not going on because it has to be due to others sending them here. get some ear plugs mr or mrs america and be happy that for now this is not mandatory. SLEEP IN SATURDAY!! Leave our State, Federal and Local Depts alone. I am sure they wish they were sleeping too but instead chose to protect you and your families!!!

I'm all for the training...but to have less than 24hrs notice and very little detail as to "why" is a little disconcerning....not to mention I'm hearing reports that Army/National Guard Choppers are the only one's being seen (no reports of seeing NJSP choppers at all). I'm also not comfortable with doing it in such heavily populated areas where God forbid even a minor mechanical malfunction could cause a major disaster. Considering I sit in the flight path between Fort Monmouth and Naval Station Earle (where it appears they're staging from)...I'm not comfortable. Something is going on that they're not telling us. They also gave less than 24hr warning to residents close to Oyster Creek Power Plant that a major alarm test was going to happen the other day. I live in Monmouth County but also have a house in Forked River since 1989...and I've only heard them testing that alarm one other time. Something isn't right. Gov is getting a call tomorrow!

I was on the beach yesterday in Allenhurst when 3 Chinook looking helicopters flew over head that were led by 2 Air Force one looking helicopters they weren't air force one but looked very similar, never seen one before in real life but all five were a sight flying fairly low along the coast going south, could have been coincidence and it was during the day but I've in the area a long time and rarely seen the chinook looking ones and never anything like the 2 leading the pack
NJFlyer June 7, 2012 at 05:21 am
My friend in Ocean Port told me the same thing Mike. Why aren't they telling residents!? This is ridiculous!!!
Swift Loris June 7, 2012 at 06:20 am
"Something is going on that they're not telling us." PATCH--CHRIS SHELDON--are you reading this? It may well be all entirely innocent and justified and necessary, but because we aren't being told anything, and in some cases are being told things appear not to be true, it's really upsetting people. NJFlyer, please let us know what you hear from the governor's office.

Swift Loris and others, my plan is to contact the state police at some point today and write about this. Local police have not been giving out any additional information on this training. As soon as I speak to someone I will post something about the training.

Something is going down...why all this training in a residential area....they had a Military Exercise in Long Branch I belive monday nite....I seen them preparing for it...I also noticed a couple SUV's with NY plates....whats that all about......Maybe the Goverment is getting ready for the revolution...lol...If the Patch has REAL REPORTING...they'll investigate.......Black Ops..?

Your right something strange is going on. I saw a bright light and then a space ship landed. Then two aliens(not Mexicans) walked out of the ship and started shooting people with ray guns. I called the police and they called the military. This is all my fault. I should have minded my own business. Sorry everybody.

It is definitely US Army training per the Code Red Alert I received on my phone when it was happening in Long Branc on Monday night.

The deer population on Fort Monmouth was getting out of control. This was just a way to reduce the population. With IR goggles the dear are readily detected at night. The operations were over the entire range of the fort with a different section each night. So, the deer should now be reduced to a manageable population.
Any other crack-pot ideas out there?
Bert Gottlieb June 7, 2012 at 02:39 pm
The Army screwed us when they closed Fort Monmouth and now they are screwing us again with these "training exercises". GO Army, please.

Something tells me this will all be in a theater near you by the end of the summer.
NGH144 June 7, 2012 at 07:13 pm
You people are so anti NJSP. It turns out it's the Army using Ft. Monmouth for training not the NJSP. As for the person that doesn't know where the nearest military base is try getting away from the computer and find out. There is one 25-30 air miles from LB (Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Ocean and Burlington Counties).

Saw movie production and catering trucks, it's just a cover so people don't flock to the area to disturb filming.

This time someone crossed the Rubicon by allowing low flying military helicopters in a heavily populated civilian area. Didn’t anybody bother to do a mission analysis first? No planning period, no risk interface before unleashing the flying armada? And what perfect timing; the area had been plagued with thunder & lightning storms, rain & high winds, now military helicopters hovering so close to the ground that one can identify the pilots. This is another nail in the areas economic coffin, residents are already moving out in droves for lack of jobs now this is really going to put the kibosh on real-estate. Suppose an accident occurred and one of those choppers loaded with fuel crashed into a neighborhood or the Monmouth Mall or the Swimming River reservoir, this is all we need. I would like to know the names of those responsible for authorizing this. I think it’s time we write to our congressional representatives germane to this matter.

I will drive through the area tomorrow to see if I spot anything! Try googling volunteer searchRead More groups for missing dogs. There are a few in the NJ area. Also ask the local SPCA and Humane Society to see if they can lend you humane traps. Try patrolling the area with food of a strong odor...raw meat, steak, etc. Search in tiny groups and split up to avoid scaring him away, and always bring food and a leash in case you have to lure him over and then leash him. Try also sitting in the area last spotted quietly to see if he approaches you. Bring food so he smells it. Just a few things I have learned while doing some dog searches. Keep sharing and put up posters locally...it helps!
