Body identified as 31-year-old man from New Brunswick

New Jersey State Police have identified the man whose body was found

The man was identified as Carlos A. Ramos, 31, of New Brunswick, according to New Jersey State Police Lt. Stephen Jones.

Jones said there were no signs of trauma on the body and that there are "some indications that the body was not in the water for more than a day."

Ramos' girlfriend was called to the scene and confirmed the identity of the body, Jones said.

The body has been taken to the Monmouth County Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Jones said the body was discovered floating about 25 yards offshore at 9:39 a.m. by a couple who was walking along the creek. The couple immediately called the Long Branch police, who then contacted the State Police.

The State Police dispatched a boat to help remove Ramos' body from the water and moved it to the shore so crime scene investigators could examine it.

Jones said the investigation is being handled by the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Marine Services Bureau.
