SLIDESHOW: 9/11 Bus Tour Makes a Stop in Tinton Falls

Pam and Craig Freeman have driven over 12,000 miles and through a myriad of natural disasters -- a , and -- to promote awareness of the 10-year anniversary of the country's man-made tragedy, the .

The Freeman's pulled into Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 last week to recognize the Tinton Avenue firehouse's out front and to raise money for families of firefighters who were killed in the attacks.

Craig is a retired fire chief, having served 30 years with the Oxnard Fire Department in California, about 30 minutes up the road from Malibu, said Pam. She's the founder of FireCareers, which she described as the "only way to get into the fire services" west of the Rockies, and has been in business 29 years.

The tour bus has made hundreds of stops at firehouses around the country since it left Manhattan Beach, CA in January on its journey to ground zero in New York City. The 9/11 Patch Project, which is not affiliated with Patch, is recruiting organizations across the country to wear the special 10 Year patches. Net proceeds from the sale of patches, decals and flags will be donated to the FDNY Bravest Scholarship Fund, the Terry Farrell Fund and the Feal Good Foundation on or around 9/11/11 in Manhattan, according to the organization’s Web site.

Pam said that whether it was the pancake breakfast in Nebraska that raised over $2,000 in three hours or the recent poker run motorcycle ride in Beachwood, NJ, people have just "opened their arms" to her and Craig.
