Roebuck Sworn in as Long Branch's New Director of Public Safety

Huge crowd was on hand for ceremony at city hall

Jason Roebuck was officially sworn in as the new Director of Public Safety for Long Branch during a ceremony at city hall on Friday afternoon.

"It's one of the most important jobs in the city," Mayor Adam Schneider said during the ceremony. "I have full confidence he's going to do a great job."

Roebuck was chosen from 7-8 candidates, many of whom are already employed by the city, Schneider said.

Roebuck became a member of the Long Branch Police Department in 1995 and most recently served as a captain. He replaces Alphonse Muolo has been the director of public safety since 2010 and will remain with the police department and serve as captain.

Roebuck was sworn in by City Clerk Kathy L. Schmelz with his wife Melissa and two childre, Jilian and Alexander, by his side.

He will oversee the Long Branch Police Department and the Long Branch Fire Department and first aid squad.

The city does not employ a chief of police, so public safety director is considered the highest possible position in the department.
