Prosecutor Investigating Potential Homicide at Long Branch Apartment

Incident occurred on Willow Avenue on Jan. 3

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Long Branch police are investigating a possible homicide that occurred on Willow Avenue last week.

County Director of Investigations Marc Limieux said police received a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. Jan. 3 for a report of an unresponsive male in the basement apartment of 326 Willow Ave. Lemieux said the address is one large home with multiple apartments.

The victim was later identified as Manuel Vilaseca Cortez, a 39-year-old male from Long Branch. Limieux said Cortez did not live at 326 Willow Ave.

He said the case is being "investigated as a homicide," but that no cause of death is available at this time and no suspects have identified.

Lemieux is asking anyone with information on the case to call Detective Jose Cruz of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office at 800-533-7443. They can also call Long Branch Police Detective Michael Decker at 732-222-1000.
