Police: West Long Branch Man Slashed Father With Sword

The man is also facing drug charges for possessing marijuana at the time of his arrest.

A West Long Branch man has been arrested after he allegedly slashed his father with a sword during a dispute early Saturday morning.

The West Long Branch Police arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. on Nov. 16 and found that Carlos A. Garcia, 22, has seriously injured his father's right arm after he slashed him the sword, according to West Long Branch Police Chief Lawrence Mihlon. The father, whose name was not released by police, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Garcia was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $74,500 bail. 

Officers on the call were Patrolmen Scott Rockhill, Laura Osborn & Robert Knott. Detectives Jeffrey Hanlon and Jayson Moore are handling the investigation of the incident.
