Police: Long Branch Pair Beat Victim for $200

Francisco Quiroz-Quiroz and Juan Merino-Ruiz face assault charges.

Two Long Branch men have been charged with robbery, theft and assault after allegedly beating and taking money from their victim during the Fourth of July weekend.

According to a police report, Francisco Quiroz-Quiroz, 24, and Juan Merino-Ruiz, 30, both of Broadway, stole $200 from the unnamed individual on Sunday in Long Branch after punching and kicking the person. The attack caused a laceration to the victim's head, police said.

Merino-Ruiz was also charged with resisting arrest after allegedly trying to fight the officers while they were in the process of handcuffing him.

Quiroz-Quiroz was taken to Monmouth County jail and held on $30,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent of the bond. Merino-Ruiz was held on $32,500 bail, also with no 10 percent option. They were both scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
