Police Catch Eatontown Car Burglar With Help of Witnesses

Witnesses attempted to hold down the car burglar until police arrived.

 

An attemped car burglary on Rt. 34 in Marlboro this morning was thwarted by witnesses in the area.

Carl Johnson, 25 of Eatontown allegedly attempted to steal a car near the at the Beacon Hill Shopping Center.

Witnesses in the area attempted to apprehend Johnson, who escaped. However, a description and license plate number was given to .

Marlboro Police coordinated with , who arrested Johnson near his house in Eatontown.

"Due to good detective work and good assistance in the community, we were able to get a plate. And with the help of our neighboring communities, we got the guy," Marlboro Police Captain Steve Mennona said.

No one was injured in the process of holding Johnson down.
