More Army Training Coming To Fort Monmouth Area This Week

Training will begin 8 p.m. Monday night

Units from U.S. Army Fort Bragg will be conducting training exercises near Fort Monmouth again this week according to the Oceanport Police Department and Mayor Michael Mahon.

The training will begin at 8 p.m. tonight and will continue through Friday evening.

"Training will be conducted at various times and lengths over the next several days, similar to the training conducted roughly a month ago," the Oceanport Police state on their Facebook page. "The details of the training cannot be disclosed."

This week's training will involve helicopters and simulated explosives, according to the Eatontown Borough website. Residents in Tinton Falls, Eatontown, Oceanport, Shrewsbury and West Long Branch can expect to hear these types of noises throughout the evening.

The training last month lasted until midnight, but the police have not given a specific time as to when the training will end each night this week.

Police in all towns surrounding Fort Monmouth are asking residents not to contact their local police about the noise. These departments have already been made aware of the training by the New Jersey State Police.

Fort Bragg is an Army installation located in North Carolina and is home to U.S. Army airborne forces, special forces, U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command.

I served too. I also lived a few blocks from Ft. Monmouth when it was heavily used for training. Granted, I didn't experience much rotor wash, but I could hear the troops themselves from my bedroom window as the sun rose. What, precisely, has your poor family been out through??? Ft. Monmouth has been there for nearly 100 years, which, I'm sure is longer than you have been. Maybe their training here gives the people of Fayetteville, NC a break. Probably not, but perhaps you could look at it that way. If thier noise bothers you so much maybe you can justify it by telling yourself it's just your turn to suck it up for a few days. Because in reality, they really aren't causing you any harm at all. Some folks just need to gripe about every thing.

"These type of manuvers are being held all over the country in highly populated areas."
They are? Evidence, please. Because, if true, this is one of the biggest stories of the decade, and portents... Very Bad Things. Since this didn't even happen at the height of WWII.
NJarhead July 24, 2012 at 04:40 pm
Could you be any more uninformed and dramatic about it?
NJarhead July 24, 2012 at 04:45 pm
Rick, here are a few examples. But I'm not going to do your homework for you:
- http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/06/us-military-to-run-urban-exercises-in-north-st-louis-residents-hope-it-will-cut-down-on-crime/ -http://theintelhub.com/2012/07/12/wmd-drill-operation-four-aces-underway-in-sc/ -http://theintelhub.com/2012/01/25/battle-los-angeles-joint-military-training-exercises-in-l-a-seek-to-prepare-soldiers-for-urban-warfare/ Also, NYC has conducted similar on multiple occasions: http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&q=NYC+counter+terroism+drills&oq=NYC+counter+terroism+drills&gs_l=hp.12...1482.9928.0.11303.27.23.0.4.4.1.969.3718.16j4j0j1j0j1j1.23.0...0.0...1c.2bUY0Tl1iHs&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=e9439e49e8c0733a&biw=1366&bih=622

Calm down. It's just how I feel.
Rick July 24, 2012 at 05:11 pm
Here's the deal.
This area suffered huge losses on 9/11. People watched the towers burn in person. Many lost loved ones and friends. We smelled the stench when the cloud covered this area. Not so with the people of, say, Fayetteville. Or anywhere else. So. When the ground shook here last Sept, we didn't think "earthquake", we thought "it's happening again", and looked towards the NYC horizon. Do we leave work and get our kids? Which direction to run? Is my husband/wife OK? This does not happen in Fayetteville.
Rick July 24, 2012 at 05:13 pm
And before someone say, "buck up and take it", look what happened when something similar, but far less worrying, happened in NYC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsQZTOT6rYQ Major Big Deal, demands for transparency, demands for 9/11 sensitivity, demands that it never happen again. Compare and contrast with the non-reaction in Monmouth County. Thanks for your service, NJarhead. You know very well the kind of poor decisions made by the brass, all the time. This is simply one of them.
NJarhead July 24, 2012 at 05:23 pm
Rick, if not being informed ahead of time is your argument, then you have every right to be upset with those responsible and I'd support you in your complaint.

@Edward....who attacked both of the World Trade Center's, The Pentagon and oh yeah the plane that crashed in Pa. that was brought down by passengers.....
Deborah T July 24, 2012 at 07:23 pm
These men and women are protecting your freedom. If we were under attack i wonder if you would have somehting to say!
oneofthesedays July 24, 2012 at 08:25 pm
You're assuming that the battles would be fought on the enemy country's soil and not ours...
oneofthesedays July 24, 2012 at 08:28 pm
Apparantly everybody forgets that terrorism exists. Has it really been that long? And is it really that out of the question that a foreign country could attack us on our own soil? You're all being ignorant.
Fred M July 24, 2012 at 09:15 pm
I really believe the military commanders know what they are doing with the training at Ft Monmouth....I don't believe they have to disclose what type of training needs to be done in this year 2012. I am sure those veterans of past wars were not privleged to have every intel info at their disposal....
Fred M July 24, 2012 at 09:20 pm
What is the REASON why anyone needs to know what is going in in Ft Monmouth? How will your daily life change if you knew what type of training is going on?
RedBanker July 24, 2012 at 09:30 pm
I think it would be better if you move out of the area.
John Gilgannon July 24, 2012 at 10:24 pm
I can't believe how many people are actually complaining about this! Do people complain about when police go screaming through their neighborhoods at 2 am? I don't think so. I'd say let them do their training...if they want to come out for a drink afterwards, bring your families because they deserve it too.
Has anyone complained about the Ordinance Disposal Range in Earle? I don't think so, and thats surrounded by communities in multiple towns too! That range is used multiple times a week, sometimes even daily...and not one complaint about this. I'll sum it up with this: "If you don't support our troops, feel free to stand in front of them"
rbresident July 24, 2012 at 11:27 pm
why doesn't everyone GET OVER IT. They are training, they have to do it. You NEVER KNOW WHERE SOMETHING CAN HAPPEN. Be happy they want to be ready for something to happen because every single person complaining and whining on this comment section would be the first to FREAK out if an emergency occurred and our armed forces weren't prepared.
wesdxcvvv July 25, 2012 at 02:19 am
Hey NJarhead, I see a lot of concern from real people that have a right to speak without feeling threatened from the military arm on home soil. They aren't burning flags, but rather asking for the right to get a good nights sleep from something they didn't agree to participate in.
wesdxcvvv July 25, 2012 at 02:25 am
Remember, you put yourself in that line of work, the citizens of Monmouth didn't. Remote NC homes isn't a populated sounds much different than the neighborhoods around Ft. Monmouth. I think we pay premium to keep the training in designated areas. We are after all--still in control of our military.
John Smith July 25, 2012 at 02:48 am
Ok irregardless of your position pro or con training at FT Monmouth, You have to all agree that sitting in your house and having the ability to criticize the standing government with out being thrown in jail or worse is pretty awesome. Having said that maybe you should cut the men and women who swear an oath to the piece of paper that allows you to state your ideals freely some slack.

John---The way Obama is whittling away at the Constitution -I dont know how long we will have that right --Hopefully he will be gone in Jan.
NJarhead July 25, 2012 at 11:28 am
@wesdxcvvv, Interesting take. In the end, who's "premium" do you think amounts to more, yours or that of our troops? Personally, I cannot stand that attitude: "Protect us! Defend my right to whine about everything! Die for me! But don't you dare disturb our peace." You're right, you deserve a good nights sleep. You should go to Ft. Monmouth and voice your concerns.
Lew Seto July 28, 2012 at 06:05 pm
It's amazing how many whiners there are. This is our Army. Training is important. I just hope it is not about strikes against Americans. It's better to see and hear than not to know what is going on. It's not Obama whittling away at the constitution. Think about it.
Ray July 28, 2012 at 07:04 pm
Its amazing how many people Patriotically support this without having the slightest idea why its being done. Not all training is important and why are they training at a closed Fort.

By reviewing several of his postings I noticed that “Fred” (no last name) seems to have a problem with disclosure & transparency, he appears to desire a world of secrecy and confidentiality in which everybody is kept ignorant and nobody knows anything. For example in one of my postings I remarked that he “did not use his full name in his postings” thus making him unidentifiable; a persona nongrata, an unknown. His reply to me was, “What need do you have to know . . . ?” In another posting germane to the military training at Fort Monmouth, he remarked, “What is the REASON why anyone needs to know what is going in Ft Monmouth? How will your daily life change if you knew what type of training is going on.” It is obvious that he lives in the conclaves of the military world and not a democratic civilian society where transparency, disclosure and sharing of information are paramount. However, this is his choice.

Lew, If a fire dept. ignores a tax payer built training site, to practice burning down short sales in your neighborhood, I think someone would ask why. So why doesn't they Army do the logical thing and use their pre-built training centers? Accepting your house filled with smoke doesn't make you a patriot, it makes you weak to stand up for yourself.

Get a life people, try spending a few days in Isreal, Syria or Somalia where the missles in your yard are real. The women in the shopping center has a bomb under her coat. I spent 3 years active duty during the Vietnam era at Ft. Monmouth. I spent most of my pay at Eatontown and Shrewsberry et al. I believe the closing was a big mistake, but reusing a property for training is always a good thing.

Howard-------I am also retired military -- and both a Iraq and Afgan vet --I also live in Eatontown ----The training in Ft Mon doesnt bother me -----I am just curious as per why???????? Ft Dix has spent millions on training areas to look like Iraq towns -- has jump areas -- repelling areas -- fast rope areas -- all built for training purposes -----I am curious as to why Ft Mon ------ -that has nothing .

I will drive through the area tomorrow to see if I spot anything! Try googling volunteer searchRead More groups for missing dogs. There are a few in the NJ area. Also ask the local SPCA and Humane Society to see if they can lend you humane traps. Try patrolling the area with food of a strong odor...raw meat, steak, etc. Search in tiny groups and split up to avoid scaring him away, and always bring food and a leash in case you have to lure him over and then leash him. Try also sitting in the area last spotted quietly to see if he approaches you. Bring food so he smells it. Just a few things I have learned while doing some dog searches. Keep sharing and put up posters locally...it helps!
