Long Branch Police Outline Bicycle Rules For Revamped Ocean Avenue

The road is one way street southbound from Melrose Terrace to North Bath Avenue.

Ocean Avenue is a popular place for bicyclist during summer months in Long Branch.

With the changes made to Ocean Avenue that now make it a one-way street southbound from Melrose Terrace to North Bath Avenue, there are new rules for bicycle riders.

• There no northbound bikes allowed from South Bath Avenue to Pier Village.

• There are no bikes allowed inside walking lanes or barricaded areas.

• The entire area from of Pier Village to Brighton Avenue allows southbound bike traffic. Please are asking bicyclists to ride with traffic.

• Ocean Avenue from Brighton Avenue to South Bath Avenue is a two-way street for bikes.

Police say Ocean Boulevard also allows two-way bike traffic.

Ocean Avenue was made a one-way street because the loss of the city's boardwalk caused people to lose a place where they normally walked or ran along the oceanfront.

A long row of orange Jersey barrier have been installed to separate the two lanes of traffic, but there are gaps in certain sections that allow residents to cross the street.
