A Long Branch police officer suffered only minor injuries in an early morning crash, according to the release from the Long Branch Police Department:

"We are happy to report that PO O'Brien only suffered minor injuries in this morning's accident," the release states.

The accident occurred at 3 a.m. on Saturday, when, a car carrying four passengers collided with a police vehicle driven by Officer Richard O'Brien, near the intersection of Third and Franklin Avenues, police said.

It appears that the other vehicle crossed into O'Brien's lane while fleeing from a fight that they were involved in and that alcohol may have been involved, according to the release.

"Officer O'Brien is very lucky to have avoided serious injury in this accident and we could not be more pleased to share that he okay!" the release states

The Long Branch Fire Department had to assist in removing the passengers from the vehicles. Two of the other passengers were transported to Jersey Shore. There is no information currently available on their injuries or identification, police said.

Glad that it was minor injuries. By the looks of the car it could've been a lot worse!
