Long Branch Man Indicted in Fatal New Year's Day Stabbing

Victor Garzon-Alvarez is accused of murdering a man in his basement apartment.

A Monmouth County grand jury indicted a Long Branch man in a fatal stabbing in the city in 2013.

Victor Garzon-Alvarez, 29, was charged with murder and two counts of weapons possession in connection with the Jan. 1, 2013 death of 39-year-old Manuel Vilaseca-Cortez.

Authorities discovered Vilaseca-Cortez at 326 Willow Ave. after receiving a call from one of the tenants in the home about a deceased body.

Police say Garzon-Alvarez knew Vilaseca-Cortez and invited him back to his basement apartment on Willow Avenue, where the two were involved in a dispute. Garzon-Alvarez was arrested in Brielle two days later.
