Long Branch Man Charged With Damaging Police Car, Hitting Officer

Incident occurred in Deal on Sept. 16

A Long Branch man is facing several charges after he damaged a Deal police car and struck an officer.

John Rosario, 21, of 7th Avenue, Long Branch, allegedly ran from officers while they were attempting to arrest him on Sept. 16.

Rosario allegedly resisted arrested while officers were attempting to chase him down and kicked Deal Police Patrolman Christopher Guy in the area of his face. He also reportedly struck Patrolman Guy in the chest while officers were attempting to arrest him.

Police say Rosario also kicked out the glass of the passenger side window of a Deal police car; causing $2,000 in damage to the vehicle.

Rosario was allegedly carrying marijuana at the time of his arrest and was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

He was held in Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 27.
