Local Firefighters Graduate From County Academy

West Long Branch, Long Branch and Tinton Falls firefighters graduate

 

Several firefighters from West Long Branch, Long Branch and Tinton Falls were among those who graduated from Monmouth County Fire Academy this week.

Graduates were divided into two classes: Class 94 graduated May 22 and Class 95 graduated May 24. Both ceremonies were held at the Fire Academy on Route 33 in Howell.

Alfred Cistaro of West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2, Jose Madera of Long Branch Fire Department and Josh Wilkins of West Long Branch Fire Company No. 1 graduated in Class 94. Michael Hartman, of Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 and Samuel Sitt of the Long Branch Fire Department graduated in Class 95.

Graduates worked 188 hours over 30 sessions and received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses, ladders and other equipment, according to a release.

“Tonight, you become members of one of American’s greatest creations – organized firefighting,” Freeholder Director John P. Curley said in his address to Class 94. “Modern-day firefighting is much different. Not only is your equipment updated, but you are required to do so much more. You don’t just fight fires. You will be required to respond to all sort sof emergencies, like first aid calls, traffic accidents, hazardous materials spills and, yes, even terrorist acts."
