Heroin, Cash Seized, 16 Arrested In Drug Sweeps in Neptune City, Asbury Park

In one family apartment in Neptune City, police found 48 bricks of heroin, or 200 bags, along with $5,000 in cash.

A joint effort by county and local police in March has resulted in the arrest of 16 people and the seizure of heroin and cash in drug sweeps conducted in Neptune City and Asbury Park, announced Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

The drug busts were carried out by the Monmouth County Narcotics Task Force with the help of local police departments.  

“When it comes to drug interdiction in Monmouth County heroin is our number one priority," said Grammicioni in a statement. "Heroin is killing our young people in record numbers and it is the cause of a lot of crime here and across the country,”

On March 7, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force along with members of the Neptune City and Tinton Falls police departments executed a search warrant in the Brighton Arms apartment complex at 401 West Sylvania Ave., Neptune City, where 48 bricks of heroin (2400 bags) were seized, along with approximately $5,000 in cash and a 2010 Acura, all believed to be the proceeds of drug sales. The pair arrested at this location are both charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child after their 10-year-old daughter was found in the apartment during the drug raid.

The following individuals were arrested as part of this operation:

Carl Edward Laine, 33, of Apartment 19A in the Brighton Arms apartment complex at 401 West Sylvania Ave., in Neptune City, is charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was released after posting $100,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent, as set by the Monmouth County Superior Court Judge John T. Mullaney, Jr., J.S.C.

Geneeja Walker, 29, also of Apartment 19A in the Brighton Arms apartment complex at 401 West Sylvania Ave., Neptune City is charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was released after posting $25,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent, as set by the Judge Mullaney. 

On March 12, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force, along with the Street Crimes Unit of the Asbury Park Police Department, Ocean Township Police Department, and a K-9 Unit from the Wall Township Police Department, executed a search warrant at 1313 Bangs Ave., Apt. #1, in Asbury Park, where four bricks of heroin (200 Bags), and less then 1/2 ounce of cocaine was seized.

The following individuals were arrested:

Fred D. Anderson 3rd, 22, of 1313 Bangs Ave., Apt. 1 in Asbury Park, is charged in Asbury Park with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute within 1000 Feet of the Bangs Avenue School, Possession with Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of the Washington Village Public Housing Complex, Possession of Cocaine. Anderson is also charged in Ocean Township with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, and Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin.

Anderson is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, on a total of $200,000 bail. Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge Daniel J. DiBenedetto on the Asbury Park charges at $150,000, and by Municipal Court Judge Louis Garippo, Jr. at $50,000 for the Ocean Township charges.

Shannon Ross, 23, of 321 Sunset Ave., Apt 3G in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, and Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin. Ross is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, on $50,000 bail as set by Judge Garippo.

John P. Cahill, 26, of 20 Griffin Place in Ocean Township, is charged with Conspiracy to Possess Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released on a summons pending a future court date.

On March 21, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force, with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit of the Asbury Park Police Department, and a K-9 Unit from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office executed two search warrants.

The first search warrant was executed at 5061/2 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, where heroin was seized leading to the arrest of Richard Plummer, 53, on a charge of Possession of Heroin. He was later released on a summons pending a future court date.

The second search warrant was executed at 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, where four bundles (40 bags) of Heroin were seized.

Glen “Link” Miller, 58, of 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, was arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin. He was released after posting $25,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent, as set by Judge DiBenedetto.

The following were also arrested and released on summons pending a future court date:

Jacoby Richbow, 35, of 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Paul Williams, 60, of 1205 Washington Ave., in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Tommy L. Elmore, 57, of 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Saul Evans Jr., 34, of 345 Myrtle Ave., in Neptune Township, is charged with Possession of Heroin

Bryant Hurston, 45, of 427 Lamberton St., in Trenton, is charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Marijuana.

Erica Davis, 32, of 1711 4th Ave., in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Noble R. Bey, 43, of 321 6th Ave., in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Denise Watson, who will be 44 on Friday, 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Alonzo S. Miller, 34, of 514 Prospect Ave. in Asbury Park, is charged with Possession of Heroin.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.

Gramiccioni said. “Don’t be fooled. We are not going to arrest our way out of this problem. The scourge of heroin will only be eradicated through education and with vigilance at home, which is why I have taken the message to parents around the county with our “Heroin Kills! Are You Talking To Your Kids Yet?” presentations. Couple that message with law enforcement efforts and we can make headway, but the nature of heroin addiction means this problem can only be solved with everyone pulling in the same direction.”
