UPDATE: Four Arrested Outside Long Branch Police Department for Rioting

Two Long Branch residents among those arrested

 

Four people have been arrested and are facing rioting charges from an incident that occurred in the parking lot of the Long Branch Police Department on Saturday night.

Long Branch resident Chevonne Battle, 32, and Yolanda Fitzpatrick, 36, and Bryant Moore, 24, of Howell and Terrell Battle, 27, of Waretown, were all arrested and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstructing the administration of law, and rioting, . Yolanda Fitzpatrick, 36, of Long Branch, was also charged with rioting and disorderly conduct.

Chevonne was also charged with aggravated assault for fighting with a police officer that was attempting to arrest him, according to court documents. Chevonne allegedly punched the officer "several times in the ribs."

Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the four were upset because they were not allowed to see a "juvenile arrestee."

"The original incident the arrestees were at headquarters for was a fight between 10 year olds," Capt. Roebuck said. "The 10 year olds were brought to headquarters for short term custody. A dispute arose when the accused were informed that only one person was allowed to see the 10 year olds at a time while they were in custody." 

According to court documents, the four suspects refused to leave the police department and shouted obscenities at officers after they were repeatedly asked to leave the area.

Terrell, Moore and Fitzpatrick were released on summonses and Chevonne was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution.

Chevonne was scheduled to appear in Monmouth County Superior Court on Wednesday, Aug. 15. His bail was set a $7,500 by a Super Court Judge George Cieri.
